Locus
Produced for Art With Heart, a fundraiser for Casey House, Toronto.
The work is painted in 6 individual colours, each named after streets in the neighbourhood:
Wellesley Blue
Church Pink
Jarvis Orange
Parliament Lavender
Yonge Yellow
Carlton Green
Locus is a map of a portion of downtown Toronto. The geographical boundaries of the map are represented by the following streets: Bloor, Parliament, Carleton and Yonge. At the centre of this map is the site of Casey House, and the boundaries represent the historical community of which it is a part.
By rendering this neighbourhood in such tactile and durable material, Locus becomes a legible document that can firmly convey memory of a place through very little actual information. Place becomes vivid in the mind of the reader.
